A TRIBUTE TO CAROLE

For 16 transformative years, Carole Charnow has been the heart and soul of Boston Children’s Museum, guiding the Museum through a period of remarkable growth, innovation, and impact. When she retires from her role as President & CEO in August, she will be the second-longest serving President in the Museum’s 113-year history; an inspiring leader who ushered in an era of resilience, innovation, creativity, culture change, and financial stability.

With Carole’s inspiration and guidance, the Museum continued its long history as a leader in informal, early education both nationally and internationally, serving as an incubator for the development and dissemination of resources for—and by—schools, libraries, museums, shelters, and community centers throughout the region and across the country.

On behalf of the staff of Boston Children’s Museum, we congratulate Carole on her retirement and thank her for 16 wonderful years of steadfast leadership and dedication to the Museum.

“We’re a local and national leader in community engagement thanks to Carole’s inspiring leadership.”

David Healy
Board Chair

“I have literally had children and families tell me that they’ve experienced the best day of their life, and I get to do that because of you.”

Malene Welch
Senior Director of Community & Family Engagement

“It was under her leadership that she pushed to develop a park in Martin Richard’s name. This park is now one of the most popular and beautiful public parks in Boston.”

Charlayne Murrell-Smith
Vice President of External Relations & Corporate Development

“Carole’s the kind of leader who is not afraid to put on a pink flamingo inner tube floatie at a staff party. I think that speaks to the spirit of play that our institution has, and also the fact that Carole never takes herself too seriously—but she does take the work that we do very seriously.”
